Howard....I polish my feed ramps with a pencil eraser. Flitz works great, but I don't always have some with me. One of my Springfield Loadeds wouldn't strip a round when it was brand new, with certain mags. I changed the recoil spring and it hasn't hiccuped since.

Thanks Joe. Will give that a try as well. But if this is the problem why did things run smoothly once it got going? Shouldn't a mag change have duplicated the problem?

A gun is a tool, no better or no worse than any other tool: an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that.

And shepherds we shall be, for Thee, my Lord, for Thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti.

It should...key word...should. The first round just may be tighter against the mag lips. Then a mag with a weaker spring might strip the first round more easily. If it happens again before you change recoils springs try loading an eight roung mag with just six/seven rounds in it.
