It's a design feature of the STI 1911. The weapon itself has a unique monitoring system that detects when the operator has a tendency to be "limp wristed" After a certain number of rounds fired, the limp wrist detector (LRD) allows the ejector to move slightly to hit the operator in forehead with brass (HOFWB feature) to remind them to tighten their grip.

If you feel the LRD is going off early or the HOFWB is annoying, just call STI and ask them to send you a non-LRD extractor or the HOFWB modification kit. I'd like to listen in on the call if you don't mind.

Seriosely though, you might be onto something here. Did not cross my mind but, now that you mention LW.......makes me wonder. You see, I had forgot to loc-tite the grip screws after replacing the grips. The came loose during use, therefor ending my range trip early. I wonder if that caused a LW scenario causing the brass to the forehead...?...
