, I did this same post a few months back and after all the replies, I convinced myself that I do not want one for the following reasons:
  • I don't think they serve a critical purpose that is not served by my tumbler.
  • They are a bit pricy and I can spend my money better on boolits if I can find them.
  • They are electronic and that's just something else to break.
  • Unless you get a big one and pay the premium, they really don't fit a lot of cases.

On the plus side:
  • They're cool, and I like cool.
  • And you can also put a whole frame and slide in one and do some serious cleaning.

But nothing you can't do with a little time and your usual cleaning tools.

Maybe someday when I have more disposable cash.

I have the big one from Harbor Freight, and use it. Recently, I bought a set of three AMT Hardballer 1911s which were new in the original boxes. All the original packing grease/oil had turned to a sticky tar-like coating. My usual cleaning solvents wouldn't even make a dent in that goo. A few minutes in the US cleaner, though, had everything sparkling clean. Same results for an old parkerized GI 1911 I picked up for my wife a few days ago. The mess wasn't as bad to start, but it was really nice to have a perfectly clean frame to start re-building.

Before deciding to save my bucks for a bit, this is the one I was contemplating:

http://www.amazon.com/Hornady-Stainl...asonic+cleaner

Maybe I would have been better off looking at Harbor Freight, but I've always found their stuff to be less than industrial quality

Ahhh!

Sorry this has to happen because of sad circumstances!

But sounds like there might be a deal there. Industrial type machines

Any way to find out what they cost originally - make and model?

Yes you did

Its a BPI ultra sonic cleaner that is all I know right now. I am out of town for work and will see it this weekend. She thought maybe $25 but didn't want to rip me off. I told her that it was probably worth more than that and would be more valuable than that.

FYI he passed a year ago already.....but doesn't make it any easier for the person.

She said he paid $200 about 8 years ago for it and still works just fine. Its only a 1 liter tank not 2 like she had thought.....I am hoping to get it for less than $100. Missing the lid though.

I will keep you posted...
