You can build a perfectly functional and accurate rifle without breaking the bank.
Anderson Upper and lower receivers, with parts upper and lower parts will get you as close as possible to a USGI setup without a tax stamp and for less than $200. I like the stock USGI or the Magpul MOE handguards - Both are inexpensive - <$50. Then you just need: Delta ring kit, which is $10 at Midsouth shooters supply Barrel nut - $5 Front handguard ring - $4 Gas tube - $12 Gas block - varies Gas block pin $1 Buffer tube (rifle or carbine) Buffer spring (rifle or carbine) Buffer (rifle or carbine, various weights) Buttstock (fixed or collapsible) Then the front and rear sights you prefer.

And shepherds we shall be, for Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be. In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. |
