Default Another New Guy from Texas

Hello Everyone.

I found this forum from the 1911Forum in the Dan Wesson sub-forum.

Just today I purchased a pre-owned, but never fired (outside the factory) 2010 Pointman-7 in 45acp. I got a killer deal on it from a guy I work with. I couldn't be happier. Ive wanted a 1911 since the first day I started shooting some 16 years ago or so. I got it home, learned to disassemble it (which is much more difficult than my "plastic" guns), cleaned it thoroughly, lubed her up - now she is ready to go. I just have to make time to hit the range this week... that's going to be really tough with it being Christmas...

Just thought I would introduce myself. I'd love to know what other people think about the PM-7 vs. the other DW 1911's. And any specific advice regarding upgrades would be helpful. I think I might want to change the sights and the grip panels at some point.

I hope to jump in here and be apart of what looks like a great community of like minded people!

Welcome to the asylum. Always good to have another Texan around. Congrats on your PM-7.

Welcome to the forum.

All recent production Dan Wessons are made with high enough quality parts that in my somewhat humble opinion nothing needs to be upgraded. Some of the older ones maybe, but not a 2010.

A lot of people, me included, prefer a standard GI guide rod over full length guides, so besides grips that's the only change I can think of. Are you thinking about combat sights, or just different low-mounted adjustables?

If I do anything with the sights, I will probably go with Night Sights. I have Night Sights on a few of my other guns and I really like them. I am not familiar enough with the stock black sights to know if I will like them.

What do most people here do with their 1911 sights?
