Default My New RIA Rifle!!

OK guys and gal, here is my new "dealer sample" RIA Model 1500 22 Magnum rifle. I just picked it up so I have not had a chance to put any rounds through it and to be honest I do not have any 22 Magnum on hand right at the moment!!

Everything looks really nice except for the finish on the stock. It looks to be a quickly applied varnish type finish that is scheduled already for a stock strip down. Actually near the butt stock I can already flake off the finish. I believe this was a SHOT Show demo gun hence the flaking on the stock.

If anyone has any good ideas on what product to use to strip the stock please chime in.

A couple of teaser pictures!! (Shipping Container)

Uh...the bolt is on the wrong side John. Other than that it looks good. Waiting on range-report.

Dunno about the bolt, Dave. I think this model is used on the other side of the treestand.

Well I was not happy with the color on the stock, it was actually almost a reddish color. I stripped the stock to bare wood and then applied Min Wax Dark Walnut. Maybe should have used an Oak color. For some reason it would not take the stain very well.

I once again stripped the stock to bare wood and repeated the process. As much as I let it dry between coats with light sanding with 600 grit paper it still would not accept any more color.

Who knows, might be something that I did or maybe the wood!!!

Oh well, it is just a shooter and not a show piece!!

The rear of the stock in both pictures is really not as dark as it appears. Not sure what happened in the picture to make it appear that way.
