Default A Scarlet Letter for Gun Owners

Gun Talk - A Scarlet Letter for Gun Owners

Apparently, a grandfather in Michigan was seeking custody of his grandson. The State Dept. of HHS, via a caseworker, advised him that to be awarded custody, "you'll have to provide all the serial numbers of your guns." And the judge who heard the appeal, apparently, concurred with that order... "We know we are violating numerous constitutional rights here, but if you do not comply, we will remove the boy from your home..."

Apparently, SAF is taking them on. We'll see where that case goes. The are some things, though, that I'd want to know about the case. First, how did the State Dept. of HHS find out that the grandfather was a gun owner in the first place? Are firearms ID's and transactions "public record" in Michigan? Did a family member "rat" on the grandfather? Also, assuming the judge did say those things, I'd want to bring that judge up against the judiciary regulatory board for such a flagrant violation. I guess that judge feels safe in imposing those orders.

I've been following that on other forums. Benefit of the doubt - maybe the judge knew the law was wrong to require gun serial numbers, but there isn't a damn thing he can do about it. Judges have to follow the rule of law, they can't change it or ignore it.

I've seen such things pop up even in Oklahoma.

I wouldn't get all worked up over this Arnold, I'd bet that judge will get set straight.

Just as a good example, my BIL/SIL became foster parents for a brother/sister. The BIL/SIL own a farm and are in to guns (pistols/rifles/shotguns, etc.) and, after divulging they owed guns all they had to do was prove/show that they had a gun safe which would secure all of them. The brother/sister are now living on said farm and learning gun safety and shooting and are in 'hog heaven' !!

A gun is a tool, no better or no worse than any other tool: an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that.

And shepherds we shall be, for Thee, my Lord, for Thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti.

The particulars of this incident don't concern me directly, as it's probably a bit late in life for me to have children. However, any govt. intrusion of this nature is of some concern. If they can get away with this, they can get away with other things. After all, they just reversed the "Docs vs. Glocks" law here in FL.
