Roto-Stand
So, I've been looking for a good tool to help hang on to my 1911's while working on them. After a bit of research, I got a wild hair and ordered a Roto-Stand from Bat Industries. The tool comes as a base, and you order accessories as needed. I got the 1911 adapter and the vise.
Here's the tool, with my CBOB mounted on it: It's very easy to change the angle of the gun, to almost completely horizontal. This picture is about halfway down: Another angle: Here's a view of the gun with the adapter. It goes in the mag well and is held in place with a tension screw. I had to add a shim to make it hold the CBOB nice and tight: Here's the vise, holding the slide. The slide jaws are nicely padded and it operates easily with one hand. Changing from pistol to vise is very simple. Overall, initial impressions are favorable. It's made out of something called "Grivory", some sort of automotive composite. The top of the base is covered with neoprene, so that you can use it to hold small pieces as you strip down the gun. They have adapters for several common sizes. As I take on making some mods to my Springer, I'll have a change to run it through the paces. Lane

That's nice, Lane. Does that base have some weight to it so it's hard to push around and won't tip or, is it designed so that the big round base doesn't need to be too heavy? That vice attachment looks very handy. I wouldn't be scared of the polymer construction. At least if you bump your slide or frame against the vice, you won't gouge or scratch it up.

That is pretty darn nifty. Beyond 1911s, I can think of numerous cases in which it'd be useful.
Thanks. The corporate firewall won't even allow me to visit the Bat Industries website. I guess I'll check it out from home.

That is really cool, I could really use one since I don't have a real work bench...etc. I would be able to use that pretty much anywhere.
Thanks for posting this. -Ryan S

It'll be interesting to see how stable it really is. The base isn't real heavy, but it does have little rubber pads on it so it doesn't slip around at all. Doing a full tear down, including knocking out pins, doesn't seem to be a problem. What I'm curious to see is how it works holding the frame while fitting a beaver tail safety (my next Springer project).
Stay tuned... Lane
