Default Colt Detective Special - Need Advice

Hey Folks

I'm interested in a gun that's on GB. The auction is up in a couple hours so this is time sensitive. If anyone has experience with Detective Specials, particularly those from the 70's on up, I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this listing:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=456112258

I'm interested in this but don't know enough about them to know what is the most I should pay based on the condition. I sent an email regarding bore, timing and lock-up. The seller said, the bore looks great and the rest is sound so far as he can tell.

Thank you, kindly!

I think you are in the ballpark. I paid $600 for a primo nickel plated piece about 3-4 years ago. Remember, they ain't making them anymore. Will hold value if not increase in time. Ask about non-firing return privilege.

No experience to speak of with those but judging from those pics it certainly looks to be in good shape ... good luck and keep us posted.

A gun is a tool, no better or no worse than any other tool: an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that.

And shepherds we shall be, for Thee, my Lord, for Thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be.

I've placed the max bid I feel comfortable with and if it works out, it will be mine for $600 including shipping and transfer at my FFL. Time will tell as I've seen gun auctions sit for a week only to blow up in the final thirty minutes.

Thanks for the feedback!

Any of the "snakes" are collectable. Viper, Boa, Diamondback, Python and Anaconda. (I have a 4 inch python and 4 inch diamondback). I also have a Detective Special, that I paid $350. for a few years back. The one on Gunbroker looks nice, but there is always risk involved not handling the gun before purchase. The Detective Special has been around since 1927. There have been several (3?) different models. I would suggest doing a Google search and reading up. Good luck.
