Rossi m92 38/357 lever rifle
Just dialed the 357 M92 in this morning. Used 158 grain Freedom Munitions remanufactured fmlfp. No malfs, smooth feeding, throws brass straight up and over your head landing 5 feet to the rear.
Best group was 3" at 100 yrds benched. I wanted to know the buckhorn ladder settings for 25, 50 and 100 yds. The following observations. From the ladder on the rear buckhorn, set on level 1 [ lowest notch which would lower the impact ] first. 50 yds, first notch up was hitting 3" low. 50 yds, second notch up, near dead on 100 yds second notch up, low about 3" 25 yrds, first notch up, near dead on 25 yds, second notch up, about 2" high 100 yds, 3rd notch up the ladder, 3" group about 1/2" low. Resolved to keep the ladder on the second notch up. At 25 yrds it'll be just under 2" high, dead on at 50 yrds and just about 3" low at 100 yrds. The last 10 rounds [ one tube mag worth ] off hand at 100 yrds snap shooting it, the group showed right at 6" for 10 rds. Came back and bore snaked it, brushed out the cartridge carrier area and wiped it down, then back in the safe. This one can put all rounds no farther than 3" high or low from POA out to 100 yrds using the second notch up on the ladder, and that's where it's going to stay. I'm very happy with this M92 Rossi. Anyone else have a pistol caliber lever rifle? Thoughts? I find this Rossi much lighter and handier than the 94 30-30's.

Except for cowboy, what is the advantage? I love my model 94 in 3030.

There's probably more advantage, but that will suffice for now. In fact I traded a 1958 94 with Lyman peep for the gun and 200 rds of ammo for this gun. I wouldn't shoot 1K 30-30 in 5 years. Presently, I've got 200 rds through this one and it's going to Ca. this weekend for another 200-300 hundred. More shooting, less safe sitting all around. Appreciate everyone/s thoughts. If you want a pic of the gun, google will bring up several pages of the M92 Rossi

I have a Winchester 1892 reproduction made by Miroku. Caliber is 38-40 and matches a pair of Vaqueros I have as well. I have only been able to take it to about 50 yards but it is pretty damn accurate. I don't remember what the breakdown was at 25 yards and 50 yards. I would need to check my notes. I reload for the 38-40 and use wheel weight fast bullets and Trail Boss. Gets pretty cheap to shoot with reloads but not if I had to buy factory. The 38-40 load was a workhorse for all round shooting back in the day.

A pistol caliber lever gun is on my list but I do have an RG4570S that I love shooting but don't get to shoot enough lately. The RG series can be problematic until you work them over good, but then most lever guns are like that, even pre-2005 Marlins. Like Gatorade, I'm setup to reload 45-70 or I'd not be able to afford shooting it.
I suppose one could try to argue that since the Magnum Research BR45-707 and similar revolvers came onto the market, the 45-70 is now also a pistol cartridge, but I'm not buying it (the revolver or the idea)!
