That particular term is usually a dig a Kimber products which use Metal Injection Molded parts as opposed to the all steel, carved by hand from a chuck of Thor's Hammer.

That almost looks too nice to be a project gun! My first project gun was an old Dan Wesson Panther I bought in a pawn shop for $500. Or at least I thought it was going to be a project gun. It didn't need "improving." That's when I saw the light and was converted to an "Enlightened Pistolero".
So my project gun was a used Colt Series-80 that cost $200 more than the Dan Wesson. That one took two years of TLC to get it working right.

I would like to try my hand at checkering, Vbob, trigger work, and some chamfering to say the least. I just can't see myself "practicing" on a $1000 pistol. |

Going to the local range tomorrow after work to fire it's first rounds through it, we will see how it does. I will report the good and bad or the good and good or bad and bad.

First range report - first shots
I ended up going to the range yesterday after work. Was only able to put 100rds of WWB 230gr FMJ through it. The pistol worked flawlessly and ate every round without hesitation. This is the only kind of ammo I have on hand now so, I will have to buy different brands, styles, weights, etc. to test it properly. Seems to group nicely and consistent, unfortunately I was not on my game. The best group I achieved free hand was 3" at 20yds, I know I can do better than that (usually, 4 of 5 round shots touching each other). The sights are nice but, I prefer a target style versus the three dot for range use. The front dot almost fills the rear slot, I like a little more light in between (personal preference). It shot low for me at 10yds and high at 25yds, holding POA on center. The trigger sucks. Very gritty, creeps, and is heavy (sub 7lbs average!). The trigger blade (?) moves a good amount up and down as well as side to side. Grips suck, period. Other than the previously mentioned dislikes, it runs. I like it, worth the sub $500 price tag.
PS: I noticed around 75rds that the grease I used on the slide was starting to fail and the slide was dry as Arizona. My buddy handed me some "Rand CLP" and I applied two drops to the locked back slide rails and cycled the slide a few times. That stuff works wonders! It felt smooth as butter and that was with only two drops at the rear. The rest of the rounds were fired after that. So, I bought a bottle on my way out, I have found my new gun lube. Sorry, no target/range pictures. |

Good report. The front sight filling the rear sight notch is why I'm thinking of going to the Wilson Battlesight U notch rear and maybe gold bead front.
