California requires a drop safety test before they approve them.

Speaking of Doc, I hope he's OK. Hasn't been on here in a while and I don't see any activity from him on FB either.

Would have been interesting to see what made the "unenlightened" run you guys off, but we'll let that sleeping dog lie.

OK, a DW CBOB it is. I was looking for a high end 1911 .45acp as I'm putting my one and only 1911 (an RIA full size) into the HD plan and I want something fun and solid to shoot for target practice, etc... Not that I dislike the Wilson Combat series... they're great and the one I shot with was fantastic. They're just a tad too expensive and you have to wait a half a year (if not more) for them.

Edit: I just checked Gunbroker and most of the CBOBs they have are "CA Compliant" (I gather that's California) so I'm not sure what that entails. I just know I want to stay away from it. I gather the bobtail has something to do with how you holster carry it and that it doesn't snag on things when you draw?

Also, would it be "blasphemy" to switch the grips to black diamond instead of wood?
Get with at Lonestarcustomgrips.com he's a member here. Does all my grips

From my point of view:

My first DW was/is the CCO. .45 cal, 4.25" barrel, 6 or 7 +1 (kimber mag is 7)

Second is the DW Patriot. Special edition from around 2003. 5". .45 cal. full size, don't even try to carry it. All stainless, top to the bottom.

Third and fourth: (and my personal favorites) 9mm Dan Wesson Guardians. I have one in 9mm that I purchased. My wife shot it and said "I like this, I want this, thank you for buying it for me." Three weeks later I purchased the same pistol in 38 Super (because I always wanted a 38 super). 4.25" barrels, superb triggers, very very accurate.

Those are my four, all are incredibly well made. I haven't seen the latest and greatest, but the name alone says "NO MIM" All tool steel. I like that.

I think the moderators had an inferiority complex. LOL
I got tired of being slapped down for what I thought were pretty innocuous comments. It got to where you had to walk on eggshells to avoid getting in trouble.
It was mainly that capricious moderation that drove me away.

Same here. Not as active but I like it here better. Despite’s Pig best effort to kick me out.
I haven’t been to the big forum in years. Don’t miss it at all.

Thank you all for the recommendations. As a big 1911 fan I may go with a full size. Not planning on carrying it. It will be a safe queen. Only come out occasionally.

Yep.... "not planning on carrying it. Wanna Bet? You're going to get that old school feeling, just like Grandpa did the first time the Army strapped one on him (Or an uncle, aunt... any old person will do). Then comes the obligatory IWB AND OWB holster. When we're done with those, you have to get the hand carved grips, otherwise you'll look foolish at the Next BBQ Gun event!

Good luck not needed. Enjoy your first Dan Wesson. Won't be your last.

The 10mm Razorback comes to my mind. The original was built from the input of forum members. Bob Serva the CEO of Dan Wesson and employee P hil were active on the big forum soliciting input and gave us all first dibs on the original limited edition of 150. The Retail price back then was $899. I ordered my son's birth year. Here's a blast from the past and a shot of mine that's not much different than the current one being sold...
