But in all seriousness OP, For me it's not hard to tell the difference between a 1911 mag, a M&P mag, a Shield mag and a Ruger. If I have to go and paint different colors for each caliber and manufacturer, I should probably just sell my guns and turn in my man card. If you have a bad mag, why do you still own it? Shouldn't it have met it's fate already?

Most people can tune, clean, replace springs and followers. But then again we don't have 10 round mags you can't take apart.

Conclusion to this saga. Took me a while but I finally got a permanent white marker. So far working like a charm..
