I would also like to hear from guys with them.
Sounds like everyone wants to fix hammer bite, trigger job and magazine hammer block. Any info, quality on new ones. Never understood why somebody besides browning didn't make them, like DW, Kimber, and so on.

It is my understanding that there have been Hi Power clones. FEG comes to mind, but I believe that there has been others, including CZ years ago. I think that Israel made one years ago. They also were made in Canada for awhile, under license Although an outstanding pistol, IMHO, the HiPower has never shared the following of the 1911.

I have a semi-clone Hi-Power from Hungary. It looks the same, but has zero parts interchange.

I suspect some of the reason for the dearth of clones is its complexity. There are just too many good designs out there which are easier to copy.

JMB developed the High Power per the French Military specifications, and had to work around the patents for the 1911, since he had sold those rights to Colt. So basically it was a clean sheet design while Browning was involved.

The name High-Power came from the French name for it, which referred to the 13 round magazine, not the power of the cartridge itself. Seems it lost something in the translation

One of the early prototypes was striker fired with a 16 round magazine. (guess that was way ahead of its time though) Another early prototype was a blowback design.

Browning died in 1926, and the 1911 patents expired in 1928. Although JMB himself could not incorporate any 1911 features, Dieudonné Saive of Fabrique Nationale in Belgium picked up the development and reworked the design to incorporate 1911 features.

France rejected the High Power in favor of a similar, but cheaper single stack pistol ("Model 1935"), and the High Power was adopted by Belgium instead (and 50 other countries as well)

I have 2 FMs that I have done the mag block on . It is easy if you know how to take the pistol down . There are some videos on Utube on the procedure .
Also on how to disassemble the pistol . Not real difficult but you do need to do it right . If you are not confident in doing this then don't do it .
The mag drops clear now and does help with the trigger pull a bit . Less creep.
I personaly have never had any hammer bite on the one pistol that has a spur hammer . You can't limp wrest it or you could get bit . My wife has been bite .
Though both of mine are good shooters I do not ike the sights but have not change them out .
I think the prices of the orig. Hi-Powers are way of line but I would gladly pay it for the Browning if I could afford it . I love them .They are the most comfortable pistol I have ever held .

I've owned many over the years, preferring the ring hammer models over spurs. None in the fold presently.
