I ended up going with black VZ double diamonds for grips.
I've thoroughly upgraded it, and here's a lousy phone photo of it.  While wasting time today (on vacation out of town), I went to a gun store to check on powder/primers and walked out with a .45 TAC 1911 II.

Those are actually the VZs. They are far from attractive, but I sure like how they feel.
I will be adding wood grips at some point.

My rebate check arrived today, less than three weeks after sending in proof of purchase.
I plan to send in the 2nd one in tomorrow. I've cut an ambi-slot into an Ahrend's fully checkered Cocobolo grip for use on the TAC, and will post a photo soon.
