Well my Gold Cup finally arrived. It looks just like the picures already posted. I called Colt and learned the date of manufacture was 1985. For a 26 year old gun, it is in pristine condition.

Right now, workman are replacing my kitchen floor (water damage) and my house is in upheavel. After the chaos is over I will disassemble and frog lube the gun. I will also put on a pair of Sarge's Ironwood grips (I had been planning on putting them on the Commander when it returns from the Colt Custom Shop) that I want to see how they look.

Happiness is a new (to me) 1911.

Default Cleaned and reassembled

Had the chance to disassemby, clean (frog lube) and reassembly my gold cup. I also soaked the grips in olive oil for two hours. I could not find a ding, or serious idiot mark on the whole gun. I do need to replace a grip bushing, (already ordered from Brownells) before I try out Sarge's grips. Next week, we'll visit the range (weather permitting).

Thumbs up Range Day

I took the Gold Cup to the range this morning and am very pleased with it. I had been a bit concerned when it wouldn’t cycle a hollow point into the chamber at home. However, at the range, it had no problem with Winchester White box FMJ and JHP, Federal Personal Defense JHP and Remington HD JHP, all in 230 grain. In close to 200 rounds, there were no failure to feed or other malfunctions. I think that it is a keeper.

Shot at 25 yards:

Thanks . My GOLD Cup is currently closer to you, than to me. I am having Jim Garthwaite add a gold dot to the front sights (yes I have old eyes) and replace the collet bushing with a fitted standard one. We will discuss anything else he thinks it could use.

Stay wll my friend.

Joe,

You should know by now you are as Ole as you Feel. So does mean you are shooting it from the Rocking Chair on your Front Porch with you Jug of Moon Shine?

BTW I will pick it up for you, after you pay for the Work On It, and try out the new sights for you??????????

Heavens No! I might drop the jug...

I have an old AF buddy in Milton and family in Mill Hall. When the Gold Cup is ready, I think that I will probably drive up to Watsontown myself and pick it up. But, thanks for the offer though.

Default Gold Cup Back Home

FedEx just brought my Gold Cup back home from a visit to Jim Garthwaite. I had the Gold Dot front sight installed, the collet bushing replaced and some other minor work done. The gun looks excellent. Turn around was under 2 months. I am hoping to get to the range tommorow.

Mr. Garthwaite was very professional and a gentleman to deal with.
