Wow, that is really close to the same blade profile as my latest knife, except I had a flatter primary bevel and brought the spine out closer to the tip to improve tip strength.
I thought I was being original, LOL.
On mine, the thumb depression in front of the handle is functional since there won't be a top guard. I'm not sure what the purpose of a thumb depression is when you can't get to it

From my friend, Fred Rowe, Bethel Ridge Forge, Ohio.

Fred's twist damascus; the black, shiny spacers in the handle are from a source I never would have thought about - bowling balls!

A gun is a tool, no better or no worse than any other tool: an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that.

And shepherds we shall be, for Thee, my Lord, for Thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be.

Coffin Handle Bowie. It's finally finished. D2 steel, golden ebony handle. Since D2 is near stainless, the scale from heat treating is not too bad looking. I decided to keep it and just polish it up a tad instead of polishing it off. Looks kind of like color case hardening.

This is for a friend in Oklahoma. College buddy actually! I promised to make him one in the 1970s but quit knifemaking before I could get to it.

A special knife with a "back story". One of the last knife shows we attended was the 2014 Dale Warther Memorial Knife Show, formerly known as the Western Reserve Knife Collector's Club Show; which had been held at the County Fairgrounds in Dover, Ohio.

At this show (as all of them) there is a banquet for all the show participants; and each "plate" is given a raffle ticket; where my wife and I sat down there were two tickets on my plate. I gave one of them back; as luck would have it the first ticket pulled (for the grand prize) was the one I gave back! They pulled another ticket - shazaam - it was the ticket I kept!

The Grand Prize, was a Damascus Thumb Knife made by Dan McMullen. It has an engraved plate, commemorating Dale Warther who had been a major player in putting on the show every year. Sadly Dale passed away unexpectedly and too young.

After holding on to this knife for the last 5 years I decided that it was time to give it back to the Club, to be given away at the banquet; with the proviso that every year it would be brought back to the awards dinner and given away as the grand prize. Tomorrow night it will be given away at the dinner; we had planned to drive to Ohio from Texas for the show but I had surgery two weeks ago and the Dr. said no travel...darn it.

So here's the Dan McMullen damascus commemorative knife. It has a stabilized sycamore wood base but I didn't keep any of those photographs.
