Default ratpatrol's new grips.

a while back Chuck aka ratpatrol sent me a really nice piece of Purpleheart and out of that i made him a set of grips for his DW ECO, this was the first time i had ever worked with Purpleheart and at first i thought they were going to be kinda plain but once i got a finish on them i really liked the way they looked on a blued 1911.

here they are on Chucks DW. i'm definitely going to make some more!

Nice, and Chuck!

Never been a big fan of purpleheart, but that looks really nice.

Funny you say that. I'm not a fan of exotic custom grips but am of purpleheart wood.
I have a couple of custom made Okinawan weaponry made out of purpleheart and I love them. They're very durable and hold up well on wood to wood contact.

I'm not much of a fan of fancy grips either. I'm more of a shooter than a BBQ gun type.

That said, I've been looking for a good compromise between fancy wood grips and the usual VZ's I put on my EDC.

Now that I've got a really nice pistol, my first, I've got some scrimshawed camel bone grips coming, and now some plain ebony grips, both from .

I'm not too concerned with the "grippyness" of the grips because I've got great checkering on front strap and MSH and find that is more important to me. So I'm hoping I'll get something attractive enough for a great looking 1911, and functional and strong enough to hold up to lots of shooting and EDC.

I've been carrying the ECO w/ grips for a few weeks and must say, being wider than the VZ they offer me a better grip.

really did a nice job on them too; fit is perfect
