In Texas they use feeders extensively. Being from Colorado I never really understood why, until I figured it out one day.
In the West there is public land a plenty a guy simply needs to pull a tag for a particular area and then hunt that assigned area. But in Texas there is a lack of public property almost none really. So if you want deer on your land or the hunting lease that you have purchased you have to entice the deer to stay on your land and not the neighbor's. Thus the use of feeders.
