Default Gander Mountain files Chapter 11

this from the TFB website. 32 stores to close with hopes to sell what is left to a competitor.

Good. Nothing but overpriced products anyways. I laugh at thier sales ad for firearms. Their sale price is normal pricing anywhere else. I bought 1 pistol there and that was before I knew better. Have not purchased anything there in the last few years.

Crap, that's the only Big Box hunting store within an hours drive from here (Dick's doesn't count ) . I have to drive THROUGH Atlanta to get to Bass Pro. And the Bass Pro in Atlanta sucks.

Yes, the prices are ridiculous at Gander, but they have things that you can't find anywhere else around here.

, I've experienced the same thing. I can go to Academy Sports and buy the same pistol for 40 bucks less. That said, my local pawn shop also sells new pistols, and he is consistently lower on anything he has in stock. The only one closing in TN is Chattanooga, a couple hours south of me, so I'm not concerned.

Wonder who will buy the carcass at the end of the day?
I'm thinking Bass Pro will pick up some of it.

There's been a lot of this type of activity happening lately, not just in the sporting goods arena either, and I truly believe that you'll see more and more of this mainly due to the internet shopping. For various reasons a lot of people shop via the internet now and don't frequent the Mom/Pop brick and mortar business's.

The demise of the big box retail outlets due to the internet may actually help the independent mom and pops. Just an example: My wife tells me that she HAS to see and try on clothing that she might wish to purchase. If there is no Kohl's, Macy's Target, etc... nearby? She would go to a smaller independent / mom and pop shop. Even with just a pair of jeans, I want to try them on first. So... the world works in cycles, its just business...

My wife is the same. She still believes in brick and mortar stores, especially when it comes to clothing and shoes.

God bless them both.

Me, I find it easier to point and click, rather than to drive, park, stand in line, etc, etc.....

We don't have any in SD but have been to a few in MN and they are soooo spendy! This doesn't surprise me at all!

Agree about clothing, I will not buy it over the web too much hassle for me. I usually support my LGS and LBS (B=bike) in town and everything else in online for me. HOWEVER now that we have the sales tax law in SD where you have to pay tax on everything I will hit the hometown stores more now I imagine. I am not a fan of Amazon at all, just over rated I think but do like Fleabay.
