I guess the haters are gong to hate no matter what. I, for one am elated that this administration didn't forget about our soldier and had been working on the release, while asking newspapers not to run stories to sensationalize the issue. I'm also proud of the media for cooperating and not risking the life of a G.I.

The description of this soldier, having been a captive so long, scribbling "SF?" on paper to ask if he was being saved by Special Forces makes me proud to be an American and a G.I. (retired, but we never lose the spirit)

Maybe it's the military in me, but while I disagree with many of his policies, I can't slam him so personally. He is the commander in chief and I never would have dreamed of speaking of a superior officer in such derogatory ways.

I'm not criticizing anyone, personal beliefs are inviolate and everyone has a right to express them. If we transpose this with chain of command, I can't see a Marine speaking of his Commandant like many folks do with the president.

I just have a feeling that if the guy discovered a cure for cancer, immediate criticism would surface over some tiny component of the success.

Maybe it's the embarrassing change in party politics the last decade, but respect for the office has disappeared. From the D's bashing Bush so personally at every turn and opportunity to the R's passing around racist pics, I long for the 60's and 70's again.

When it comes to getting our GI's back from the enemy, results are paramount. Would there be clamoring and criticism if the matter was publicized and we lost the chance to get him home to his family?

Flamesuit on....

He is a friggin deserter.....and soldiers died looking for him......
here, direct from CNN... "I was pissed off then, and I am even more so now with everything going on," said former Sgt. Matt Vierkant, a member of Bergdahl's platoon when he went missing on June 30, 2009. "Bowe Bergdahl deserted during a time of war, and his fellow Americans lost their lives searching for him."

And now his father is tweeting for the release of more Gitmo prisoners. WTF?

MMJ

I hadn't seen that part of the story. I have no sympathy for deserters... none. He's still an American being held, but he ought to be treated as a deserter here at home if all that is accurate.

Thank you for pointing that out.

No sweat....I've been all over this since he walked off base about six years ago. Left on his own.

What we really need to do is sign the White House petition to get the current Marine being held in Mexico back to the USA.

And now we let the world know that we negotiate with terrorists.

Yup, and now here and especially overseas, the terrorists are harping they can get four prisoners for every American they capture. Essentially, Obama put every American at risk of being kidnapped for reward. What a jackass. I sure hope Republicans win it all in the mid terms and impeach him.
