In 2013, this happened in Santa Rosa, Ca

On Oct. 22, Gelhaus and a deputy he was training pulled up behind Andy, who was holding what turned out to be a replica AK-47 pellet gun in his left hand near his home outside Santa Rosa. A witness heard Gelhaus yell at the boy twice to drop the weapon, police said. Gelhaus has told investigators that he fired when the boy turned and the barrel of the rifle rose toward the deputies, he said.

A few years ago I responded to man with a gun call where the suspect was pointing said gun at people.
As I rolled up with my partner we see a young male with what looked to be an MP5. We jumped pointed our firearms at him. Fortunately when we rolled up it was pointing down and he immediately dropped it.
Turned out to be an airsoft rifle painted to look like a real thing.
Just recalling the incident still gets my heart rate up.
