the revolver needs to soak in Kroil for awhile, that will free things up so you can identify further. The length and size of the chamber part of the MarkIII makes me suspect it IS some kind of flare gun. You may try to find serial #'s, model #'s, and call Remington to see if any records exist as to it's original function and go from there. Good luck

I have the serial number of the Mark III. But it seems that the barrel has been re-worked. Someone on FCC pointed this out by showing this picture of an original Mark III barrel:



Now, on my Mark III, you'll notice the micro-stamping is cut off and reversed:



I'll check with Remington. They may know something about it.

Should the whole revolver be dropped into it or should it be disassembled, first?

I would pull the grips and soak the whole thing at first.

yup. You can catch it cheaper on Amazon sometimes
