Default RR 1945 Springfield Armory M1 Garand

I brought an old girl with me today from 1945. This Springfield Armory M1 Garand was purchased over 5 years ago and it came from the CMP (so its not a parts gun). I can only imagine what stories it could tell me if it spoke. Anyhow, this rifle came with original “GI” wood furniture and it shows with scratches, gouges, dents, chips, ect..... but, it has character. To preserve the furniture so it retains its value as it gets older and less rifles are available...... I purchased new wood furniture for it and sent it to AFJuvat for a refinish (the wood, not the rifle). This new stock has an amazing grain with some “tiger striping” and it fit the old girl like a glove. Unfortunately, while shooting it the upper hand guard retaining clip snapped and chipped off a piece of the upper guard (see pics). That sucked, trying to find a piece to match is going to be a pita.

The old girl shot great, as most Garands tend to do. Considering the front sight blade completely covers up the bullseye (2 1/2”) at 100yds, I think I shot well. Definitely M.O.M. Mike (aka Racer88) took a few shots and did well with it but, pussed our after a few rounds. I guess he couldn’t handle a man’s caliber (Lmao). Actually, he was the smart one today. My messed up shoulder feels like mush and feels like it got kicked by a mule. I guess we are spoiled with out low recoil calibers and super padded up buttstocks these days.

Well enough chit chat, here are some pics of the old girl.
