Default Iwo Jima Monument

We were visiting my daughter for the week in Arlington, VA. She lives about 2 1/2 miles from the "Iwo Jima Monument" which is what she calls it. Really it is the "United States Marine Corps War Memorial" which has a statue of the famous second raising of the flag on Mount Surabachi.

She took me there on Thursday. It was completely renovated starting in 2015 and finished just last year (2018). It looks brand spanking new!

At the end of the post is a video of walking around the statue from the back to the front. Watch the flagpole, you get the illusion of the flagpole being erected as you walk to the front.

And of course since she is a millennial, we had to take the obligatory selfie...
