92 years old and still shooting!
My grandfather aka The Gunfather, came down to visit for Christmas and brought some toys.
He brought: Norinco M14 .308 NDM-86 Dragunov 7.62x54R Glock 22 .40S&W Lone Wolf Timberwolf frame NEF .22 Mag NEF .32 H&R Mag Taurus .327 Federal Magnum Pepperbox Blackpowder. Not including the Ruger LCP in his pocket. He also brought a .30 Cal Ammo can of .308 just to make sure I had some for the M14. His Timberwolf frame needed to swap the 9mm ejector to .40 S&W so he could use the Glock 22 slide with it so I did that for him. The .327 Fed Mag is moms carry gun, The M14, Dragunov, Glock frame, NEF .32 Mag and pepperbox are staying on loan to me so I can work on long range rifle, find a Glock 9mm slide and repair the NEF and Pepperbox. Sometimes you just go with the flow and make room in the safe! Well we go to take a range trip today. He has been shooting for over 85 years. Was a company runner for the 401st Timberwolf Division in Germany. Has fired Bazookas, carried a Garand until he picked up a Sturmgewehr 44. It isn't often he gets to shoot something he has never shot before. He always loved .41 Magnum and has both a Ruger and a Smith & Wesson in that caliber. He read about Elmer Keith and the pursuit of the .41 Special that never caught on. He thought it would never happen. The .41 Mag has a real kick to it and 92 year old hands are sore for days after shooting full power loads. So Starline has a run of .41 Special brass and after talking here with , I was able to make up a soft load that he got to shoot today. We got the S&W Model 63 .22 LR out first and he was plinking away. Then he wanted something with a little more kick! Lone Wolf distributors makes a lower frame pistol called the Timberwolf. It can use a Glock slide and any thing with his units name on it is something he needs to have. He has only fired one other striker fired pistol and took to the Timberwolf pretty quick. After 4 mags of .40 S&W he wanted the .41 Special. He was hitting about 8" high but in about a 4" group. Even though he thought the load was pleasant to shoot I think I could back off it a grain or two and lower the point of impact while making it a very soft shooter. I got to try out the 9mm mags I got for Christmas and had fun shooting the Timberwolf as well. Really a great day at the range! Dirty guns are still in the bag but pics will come soon till then just this one pic of him with his walker slinging lead down range!
