On another site a troll got on there and said he had a BS and MS in Women's studies.
Then later he started whining about the high cost of college and wanted it to be free.
I blew a gasket...
I asked him to think long and hard about this question and give me a coherent and logical answer:
WHY should
I pay for
YOU to go to college and get a degree in Women's Studies?
You can't even get a real job with that "education." If you can't cut it in the more rigorous disciplines, why should you even go to college at all? Wouldn't it be better if you went to a trade school and learned something USEFUL TO SOCIETY. Learning Basket Weaving would be infinitely more benefit to society than throwing the hundreds of thousands of dollars down the toilet that the state and federal governments spent on your Women's Studies degree.
His response: silence
It kind of dawned on me that all these idiotic departments like "Women's Studies" are one reason the cost of college is so high. I taught in the Chemical Engineering Department, and we brought in way more grant money than all of the tuition and salaries in the department combined. We brought in more grant money to the university than any other department. Yet we were treated like a red haired stepchild. We didn't even have a damned parking lot or our own building. Our friggin students should have been able to go to school for free. But our grant money was siphoned off by the University, and thrown down the toilet on things like
Women's Studies.
