Window knife sharpener????
Just stumbled across this video and thought I'd post it with the hope that all of your knife guru's will chime in as to the validity of this technique.

I've heard of people doing this but I've never tried it.

I could not play the video. Are they sharpening a knife on the top edge of a car window? I have not tried it, but have heard from a couple of reliable sources (members here) that it works well. Can also be done with the "unfinished" ring around the bottom of some coffee mugs.

Interesting, who knew?
|
I've never seen that before.

I've seen it done. Just a note, a good knife with hard steel can crack newer windows with the frosted tops. You can accomplish the same thing on a ceramic coffee cup or bottom of a bowl

New to me...

I've used that skill several times over the years. Mention it in the knife courses when demonstrating the spydie stick sharpening system during breaks. It works, as Pig mentioned don't bear too hard on the window, it's not necessary anyway. Also, a very dull knife will not fair well with this technique.

I use ceramic coffee cups, plates, bowls, etc. all the time. I hadn't heard of the car window trick, though. Thanks for that.
