Shot my first 1911 today

Thanks for my first 1911 experience today Matt! Got a quick tutorial on grip and the safeties, then lined up the sights and gave it a squeeze. Couple in the bull couple outside. First was a Colt Commander then a Colt full sized. I liked the commander a little better. It was a little snappier but it was a little tighter group, maybe because the full length one was bone stock and the commander had some work done. Guess it goes without saying I like the 1911 platform better than the FEG .45, the only other .45 I have shot. Very smooth and made a scatter shot of a shooter like me feel pretty good about my target! I now feel almost like a real COTEP member! Full fledged when I actually have my own but will have to wait on that for a while.

Thanks again Matt!

And so the addiction begins...

Great job, Matt!

My Pleasure! What Charlie didn't mention is that he was introducing me to my new Colt 6920 as well :D

The good buddy that he is, he came by my house the other day to walk me through the bells & whistles of an AR (he's built a couple) and get me squared away on the main components and basic functions. Today we met at the range and it's a good thing I had him look over my BCG prior to firing it because what I though was sufficient lubrication was, in fact, not!

The rifle ran flawlessly on a lightening shortened range session but now that I'm squared away on it, I cannot wait to get back out there a put a few hundred rounds down range!

You've taken your first step into a larger world.

Gatorade 06-18-2014 03:44 PM

You got that thing dialed in for sure at 25 yards. Would have been nice to finish up the 100 yard shooting but Mother Nature had other ideas. They may not all have hit paper but i sure wouldn't want to be the bad guy on the receiving end!

100 yards with iron sights is quite a shot in my book. 50 yards with iron sights is about my max. After that I need some magnification. I found a pic of the 6920 with the old Colt hand guard and stock. I think they are exclusively MOE now. It looks like the same stock I have on mine that I showed you. I will try to post the pic but I am out and about an using the iPad so it isn't so easy to pop the pic up here.

Gatorade 06-18-2014 03:46 PM

Let's see if the pic works.

Edit- didn't work. I will try later.

It's nice of your son to let you borrow HIS ipad funny

Well done on both your sides. Welcome to the addiction.

I figured I'd like it enough but shooting it put a big fat smile on my face! With prices lower than they've been in years you should buy one as an investment alone!!! :D

What do you use to pull frames from a vid?

girphoto 06-19-2014 07:46 PM

Howdy
The question is not getting flying brass from the firearm, but getting the next round going into the chamber

And you can get it also if you just hire me to do it

On my iphone, I play the video and do a screen capture for a pic. I'll go back and get one ejecting. I have a client dropping dogs off any minute so It'll be a little bit.

girphoto 06-19-2014 08:41 PM

The only thing you need is a camera that is 36 mgpxls and runs at 9 fps and you can gt the photo with an f1.8 lens
