Coast folding knife

Was at Home depot earlier and bought a Coast FX 411 pocket knife, 10 bucks. Got it home and used the sharpener and very impressed, it's a heavy folder with a blade that's 4 inches and sturdy enough it feel like you could pry a manhole cover up with the thing. The blade locks and opens with one hand. I just ordered 6 more for gifts.

What's that about sharp knives and retired lawyers????.....:p

I used to run a charter boat on the weekends as a stress relief thing. I carried a pocket knife and had a habit of cutting myself. When I did, I would give the knife to the mate. Once I even fiddled with a folder in my pocket and cut the crap out of my finger while in the pocket. Lee, my mate, just held out his hand.....

I've finally overcome the habit of flicking and messing with a folder, now I just cut myself while sharpening. I did give away an auto opener once when I fiddled with it and it tried to open in my pocket, a few things close to pocket I didn't want to cut.

funny

As soon as my finger heals, I'll try the lock out! Amazing that someone did a youtube review on a 10 dollar knife.

I realize it's sort of the Armscorp of knives , but I will keep mine and give away a few as presents. I even ordered a few FX 412, all stainless for seven bucks each.

milkmanjoe 05-19-2014 03:22 PM

I don't know what to think of you in a knife fight......
If you make a mistake who gets cut? And if you fight perfectly, do you get cut?

I'm actually becoming a fan of this thread, not only for the video review, but cause you got rid of the assisted opener before decapitating your manhood.:D

Watch out now...............I would call that the Hi Point of the knife world or even the Kimber!!!!!:D:D:rolleyes:

In a knife fight my strategy is to cut myself badly and then go to gun. It's amazing what extra strength and focus you get when you realize you have sliced an appendage.

For $20 more you can get a Spyderco, Kershaw, CRKT, or a Buck knife. I don't think I can trust a $10 knife.

Shark1007 05-19-2014 05:05 PM

Gotcha, I have all the other ones, favorite is a CRKT Ken Onion design I have on me now. The coast should work for jobs around the boat where I normally wreck good knives. As far as an EDC, maybe not the Kimber, er Coast.

For about the same price, you can get a Mora that will be a great knife. It's fixed blade, not a folder.

I'm not allowed to play sharp toys until I come off the Coumadine.

Shark1007 05-21-2014 10:41 PM

Well, my finger healed and I put on a leather welder's glove and beat the knife against a wood work bench to see if I could duplicate the failure depicted in the review.

No soap, the blade stayed locked after 20 or more hard strikes. Maybe they listened to the video guy.
