COTEP Holsters
I'm not ready to start back up yet, but thought it might be a good chance to make corrections on design, function or durability. We started the COTEP holster idea about 3 years ago, and I believe I shipped about 120 holsters. For anyone here who've been around during this time, I have a few questions (I have thick skin, honest answers will help make a better product):
Did you buy a holster? If not, why not? (price, design, whatever) What style? OWB, IWB? Lined? Do you still use it? If not, why not? (comfort, size, color, whatever) How has it held up? How's is the stitching, finish, fit? If you could redesign it, what changed would you make? Thanks! Lane |
Lane, I have 2 of your lined OWB holsters, one for my full size and one for my Compact. Both are holding up very well with hardly any wear showing at all. I do not use it everyday as some days I rotate and carry my RIA MS TCM22 with a rail.
The fit and stitching are holding up extremely well. For me I would not have you change a thing design wise. I would see if you can add a railed holster to your line-up as some like me do have railed 1911's now. Now if I just had that belt I would be all set!!!!! This piece of rope that you sent me until my belt is ready is getting pretty worn!!!!!:D |
I have one of your holsters (OWB, black, unlined, compact). Very nice work. I don't wear it much. Mostly, now-a-days, I carry only IWB. So the only changes I'd make to another order from you would be a lined IWB rig. Or for another gun....

Yes, several, all brands and yours! What style? OWB, IWB? Lined? Both in and out...one lined agian yours Do you still use it? If not, why not? (comfort, size, color, whatever) I use my out at the range and my IN for carry everyday. The one you built me I "save" for BBQ set up..so darn nice I hate to scuff it up. How has it held up? How's is the stitching, finish, fit? My Bianchi and the more common brands hold up very well for the heavy abuse, your lane does not get much abuse becasue I use it for "show" I have the logo one wiht airbrushing, and lined you built for me and its exceptional! I would buy anohter if need be no questions asked. I don't have any suggestions for you because I don't know enough about holsters to be honest. I do know quality when I see it..you have that! |
I may be interested, got any pics of the original holsters?

I got mine from El Paso Saddlery, it rides a bit low too. It is Government length and I need one Commander length now.

I'll have to dig up some other pictures, but this is a version of the OWB with Snaps that I use for my EDC 3.5" RIA:

I'm still just hoping you start doing mag holders again :D

ok.... here ya go Lane....
Did you buy a holster? If not, why not? (price, design, whatever) Yes, What style? OWB, IWB? Lined? IWB with custom logo, lined, clips Do you still use it? If not, why not? (comfort, size, color, whatever) Yes, while not everyday, I do wear it. How has it held up? Like Ellison's Tank! incredible quality. How's is the stitching, finish, fit? Oops.... got to say it again.... fit finish and stitching is "incredible quality". If you could redesign it, what changed would you make? I would spell "changes" correctly Lane. lol.... other than that, I would either upgrade, or do away with the clips on the IWB. Consider a J clip design as used on the Crossbreed. Given the tightness of the leather, on several occasions I pulled the gun AND the holster out of my pants while drawing. J clips which hook under the belt or leather snaps would clear up the issues fast. Final thought: If I were ordering again today, I would order an OWB as my BBQ holster. It seems almost a shame to hide such a thing of beauty inside my pants (stop it Ellison!!!!! Yes, its a possible double entendre ) and a pic http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/...a/P1020639.jpg Hope this helps! DaFadda |

I see thread drift......back to what we would change or keep concerning Lane's Lasco Leather Holsters?
|
Just my 2 cents. I ordered an inside the waistband holster for a full size 1911. I don't know if others had the issue but I felt there is a little too much leather where the clip's go on the holster. Where I wore my holster when I carried my gun the leather felt as it was too tall and dug into the top side of my leg. If that makes any sense. If it does not make any sense I will try to further explain with a picture.

Yes that helps. Thank you. I've got a new source for IWB clips, so I'll be trying out a couple of new ideas. Perhaps you'd like to be a beta tester?

I have a Rgrizzley holster for full size with the same issue. I wear it but it cuts now and then.....been temped to do some home craft trimming!
