Magazine confusion

Looking for input on how folks keep track of their mags. When you own a number of different pistols with similar shaped mags and similar calibers, how do you differentiate? Not all mags are stamped so it can become a guessing game. I store them in a chest which has labels on the lid and on the back, but occasionally they get intermingled and the fun begins...

I've never really even thought about that. I've always tried to keep my ammo and mag needs simple, .45ACP, .223, .22LR, and 12 gauge is all I ever have to keep up with.

I engrave a tiny number on the back, down near the base plate. That number goes into a notebook that tells where/when I got the mag and approximate round count through it. My initials go on the baseplate.

If you have that many different pistol magazines, you could put a dot of nail polish on the magazine, of course, using a different color for each different pistol the magazine goes to. ;)

They make a pistol other than .45 acp? Why?

I like Playboy and Hustler and Recoil magazines.

I use a silver or gold shape and grip tape-magazines at Dawson Precision. Numbering magazines will also help you identify bad mags. They have them for almost everything. Example:

I really don't have any issues with any magazines where I felt I needed to mark them. I do number my work ones just to track if there's any issues. Those I just put a number sticker on the bottom of the base plate.

Because some people feel the necessity to shoot at something or someone upwards of 17 times vs once or twice with 45 ACP

See above answer.

But in all seriousness OP, For me it's not hard to tell the difference between a 1911 mag, a M&P mag, a Shield mag and a Ruger. If I have to go and paint different colors for each caliber and manufacturer, I should probably just sell my guns and turn in my man card. If you have a bad mag, why do you still own it? Shouldn't it have met it's fate already?

That's .38 shy of my exact lineup - I like your style, sir :)

Most people can tune, clean, replace springs and followers. But then again we don't have 10 round mags you can't take apart.
