Hello From GA

There I was this past Monday evening, drooling on the case in the local Gander Mountain and minding my own business, when I came across a whole shelf full of Dan Wessons. Well, I screwed up and asked to take a look at a SS Valor.

Racked the slide: unbelievably smooth. Pulled the trigger: crisp like a glass rod snapping. Checked the fit and finish: tight and well put-together with beautiful, classic 1911 lines. Needless to say, within ten minutes I was handing over my credit card.

Now I need some range time. At least that'll give me something to do once I go on furlough over this government sequestration nonsense.

Welcome to the fold Carl!

I'm down here in Columbus. How do you get to Gander Mountain? I'll be coming up I-85.

Did they have a VBOB?

I'm actually down in Valdosta, right on I-75 just north of the FL line. Let me know if that's within your range, and I can provide directions if you need. They did have a duty treat VBOB, but priced at $2499.

Carl in GA 03-08-2013 05:17 PM

Thanks again, everyone, for the warm welcome! I'm looking forward to getting my new little friend fed.

DrHenley 03-08-2013 08:09 PM

You have a Gander Mountain in Valdosta?

How'd y'all manage that?

Yeah, I saw a duty finish VBOB at the Gander Mountain in Opelika, AL for that price, and I though it had to be a mistake. The duty finish Valor was only $1700. They both have the same MSRP.

I used to drive down to Albany to shop at the Outdoor World there until it closed. I got my 30-06 Browning B78 Highwall there. I HATE driving through Atlanta, but I have to go through Atlanta to get to the Bass Pro Shop. I may have to make a pilgrimage down to Valdosta...

Clean livin', I guess ... the one advantage to a town with very little chance to do the other kind.

At the time, they had one duty treat Valor and one SS (the one I grabbed ... the guy checked in the back for another one, but said they only had the one in the case), a Guardian .45, a CCO and the VBOB. Once I confirmed the price on the VBOB I didin't even touch it. I decided I couldn't afford to like it!

Thanks, and I know what you mean. I moved to Wisconsin for a couple of years for a job that looked too good to turn down. Two winters up there, and suddenly the job didn't look that good anymore. Now that I'm back, I'm staying put.

I was stationed at Ft. Stewart for just over 2 yrs. Prior to that, my first visit to Georgia was the douglasville area with my roomie while we were stationed at Ft. Hood Tx. Fell in love with the people and beautiful countryside of N. Georgia.

Two things I learned in Georgia, One is to never put butter and sugar on your grits :( -damn near got run outta my buddies house for that and the other was when you're leaving, you don't say goodbye or see ya later, you say - "Hawl at cha'" :D

Good times and great memories
