Knife of the Day, Day 16
Jack Mosher "Scagel Style" fixed blade stag handled knife with a folder knife in the handle! Although a very interesting design and execution using the folding blade has it's challenges!

That is unique for sure

Day 17 - Jim Downs Skinner
I bought this knife at a discounted price because of the bolsters had some rub marks on it; so what to do? Jim recommended Harry Limings Jr. an outstanding engraver. The pins are 1/16th diameter; Harry also engraved them!

That’s purdy. Great engraving on it as well.

Here is my knife of the day. A chef's knife to end all chef's knives.
Well, first let me show you what it looked like in the beginning...a power hacksaw blade (with tungsten carbide teeth), and a honey locust log. https://i.imgur.com/MRovEHW.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/ALVYty4.jpg And here is what it FINALLY looked like today. I'm embarrassed to tell you how long I've been working on this dang thing...or how much it cost me to make... The straighter part of the edge is tungsten carbide...didn't I tell you this was a chef's knife to end all chef's knives? :D https://i.imgur.com/gL17dsJ.png http://www.cotep.org/forum/picture.p...&pictureid=888 |
Day 18 Fred Rowe
Nice feather pattern Damascus Dagger by Ohio Maker Fred Rowe. I asked Fred to make a boot dagger for me; this is what he did for me! Well played by Fred.

I've made knives before, but there were several aspects of the process I was never satisfied with. This project was to work out a better process and find out what equipment was required to do it right without having to buy a milling machine. Lot's of trial and error, emphasis on error. And numerous trips to Harbor Freight, Home Depot, Lowes...and numerous orders from Amazon and Ebay. http://www.cotep.org/forum/picture.p...&pictureid=888 |

This one is beautiful, definitely one I would carry! Nice blade, Sir. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Day 19 P. J. Tomes San Francisco Dagger
When I bought this knife I called PJ to ask him about this knife. He said it was one of his first Damascus blades; the nickel silver studded handle is Walrus Ivory; and the nickel silver sheath is in sore need of polishing and the silver ball, missing from the tip of the sheath, needs to be silver soldered back on. An E-Bay bargain buy!!!

Something a little different - but I like it!
I don't know very much about this dagger; the Maker's name is D. A. Horne; supposedly from Oklahoma City; from what I've heard he made about 400 or so knives. Here's a Celtic Pattern Dagger with a wood sheath. This picture doesn't do the knife justice; there is engraving on the blade on both sides...
http://iwantthatknife.com/Gallery/al...rne_dagger.jpg As an aside; I do buy, sell, and trade custom made knives! |
^^ Interesting, don't see wood sheaths often
|
Just checking in for the latest and greatest ......
|
I seem to have fallen behind in posting; so here's Day 25, 26, and 27:
Day 25 This is a "named" WWII Theater Knife. It has the maker's name and service number; I was able to find out he joined the Army Air Corps from Wisconsin, served in the Pacific, and is buried in Wisconsin. I have a few WWII Theater Made Knives but this one is the only "named" knife: http://iwantthatknife.com/Gallery/al...wwii_knife.jpg Day 26 another Canadian Knife Maker's knife by Steve Vanderkolff. This is a Damascus blade with Tulip wood handle and mosaic pins. It is a long slender knife; with a leather sheath: http://iwantthatknife.com/Gallery/al...lff_dagger.jpg http://iwantthatknife.com/Gallery/al...f_sheathed.jpg Day 27 Ed Kalfayan Searles Bowie: http://iwantthatknife.com/Gallery/al...arls_bowie.jpg |
^^^ Awesome !!
Anyone heard from C lyde, as much as he likes knives I'd of thought FOR SURE he'd be in here checking these out .... |

Day 30...
I first met Luke Swenson, a local San Antonio Knife Maker several years ago at a Knife Show in Dallas. At the time Luke was also a San Antonio Fire Fighter who has since retired from his First Responder job and now makes knives full-time. Luke told me that the SFFD was having a fund raiser for one of their own who was diagnosed with throat cancer. Luke said he was going to have one of his knives in the silent auction; so I bid high enough to "win" the auction! Stag jigged bone and a rear lock release; shown with my 1962 Vintage Colt SAA chambered in .357 Magnum. http://iwantthatknife.com/Gallery/al...AA_Swenson.jpg |
^^^ makes for a nice combo !!
