I don't believe for one second that Gov. Christie was ever "pro-2a." Christie was the US Atty for the Newark division for many years. He was simply pandering to the constituency he was hoping would elect him President. Perhaps he was also reacting to the embarrassment he felt about the draconian nature of his state's gun laws finally coming to light all over the country and the effects of those laws (e.g. Carol Bowne).

That said, a lot of the blame must lie with the NJ Legislature. These are the true "anti 2A' people. In fact, A task force Christie assembled recommended some tweaks to the "justifiable need" standard in the NJAC (regulations code) that would make it easier for people in situations like Carol Bowne to get a NJ CCW permit. But, already, the Sen. Majority Leader, Loretta Weinberg (one of the strongest anti-gun legislators) has pushed through a bill to nullify what Christie was trying to correct in the regulations. It passed the Senate and is waiting action in the Assembly.

Having seen what the FL leg. did to the OC bills this past session (or didn't do) is only evidence that we need to be very watchful of our politicians and not let them get away with things like that. "Constant vigilance."
